It was early morning a couple of years ago when a few wet wipes got stuck in one of the wastewater pumps on Hanö island, preventing the pump from starting.

For Bravida’s service technicians and the staff at the wastewater treatment plant, this was nothing unusual. Magnus Nilsson rolled up his sleeves, took the ferry out to the island, and prepared for what had become a routine assignment. He brought his lunch bag, gloves, and tools, knowing the job would take several hours.

The wet wipes had tangled together with other materials that should never be flushed, locking the pump and preventing it from starting. Magnus and his colleagues were forced to lift the entire pump and dismantle it to remove the debris before he could return to the mainland.

Today, the situation is different.
At CG Drives & Automation, we asked ourselves a simple question:
Why should a person have to travel to an island to do something a variable frequency drive can do automatically?

With our long experience in wastewater management and the development work behind FlowDrive, the software in the existing drives could easily be upgraded. The result was an automatic reverse function in the Emotron FDU.
No ferry.
No manual work.
No unnecessary costs.

What changed was not the pump. It was the way of thinking.

Just imagine how much difference an automatic pump reversal can make.
Today, this function is standard in our variable frequency drives. Real innovation is about removing problems, not managing them.
